As in any other vital area of your life, self motivation is the first step toward success. Jobs at home don’t fall into your lap. Finding freelance work means putting yourself out there and searching for the opportunities that fit your lifestyle.
I had a conversation this week with a stay-at-home mom who wanted to know more about Smart Moms and the kinds of work-at-home opportunities she could find. She is a writer with some web design experience. After being at home for four years with three children she’d like to “get” creative again. She wants to work from home.
We talked about finding freelance work. Where does one look for writing/editing or web design work-at-home? Is this an easy task to undertake? What’s required of her?
Well, that depends on what she wants to achieve.
As in any other vital area of your life, self motivation is the first step toward success. Jobs at home don’t fall into your lap. Finding freelance work means putting yourself out there and searching for the opportunities that fit your lifestyle.
She can advertise her services on a number of freelance worker sites. Potential clients can view her resume and bio in their search for a candidate that matches their particular requirements for projects.
She can also view nationwide job listings on most of these site. Some specialize in journalism jobs or provide markets where new writers can get there feet wet. Others, like Elance, include marketing, administrative, and research listings as well as writing and web design/development.
If she commits a certain amount of time, let’s say – two to three hours per week- she can put a routine in place for searching job listings and applying for or bidding on the freelance projects she desires.
She is in control. She is in control of her time, the types of project she chooses, and most of all the steps she takes to achieve her dream of working at home.
